I've been busy coloring and lettering APOCALYPSE INCORPORATED, preparing to shop it around to get it published. I'll post some of those pages once I get around to making them web-worthy.

These images are the October Cheat Sheet image for the shop, and a sketch I did in a new 100% recycled paper sketchbook. I wanted to see how the paper, which is pretty smooth, would take to a good brushin'. Turns out, it takes it pretty well.

This was done last week for the September Cheat Sheet for the shop. A cheat sheet is what we give customers at Velocity that lists all the new product we will order at month's end, gives them a chance to add it to their list. I've gotten tired of just moving the store logo around the top of these things, so I figured I'd start drawing new banners for each month.

RIDEFINDERS comic

This is pages 2 3 and 4 of the Ridefinders comic I did for GRTC earlier this year. It is to be handed out to elementary school children all around the city to teach them the benefits of carpooling, biking and riding the bus to reduce carbon emissions and stuff like that. Scott Wichmann wrote it, it was a lot of fun to do. The corrections and deadline crunches, eh, not so much.

Man, where'd the time go? Oh yeah, towards getting a lot of stuff done, which I'll try to pile on here. This 1st thing is page one of the forthcoming APOCALYPSE INCORPORATED series. This is penciled by my amazing pal KERRY TALBOTT, who is too busy and important to ink or color so I'm the lucky guy that gets to do all that.

I'm going to see if I can throw up some more recent stuff in a minute.

A couple of figure drawings from last week at Ghostprint Gallery. It had been a while since I had gone to any sessions, and I'm really glad I went. I did these with a brush pen, no pencil or anything beforehand. The first image is just my cracking open a new brush pen (of which I'm still learning limitations and benefits), the next two from one pose over the course of 4 0 minutes or so.

Ironically, I set this blog up to push me to get more art done and post, and since I've had the blog I've done more art than in a long time, just haven't had the time to scan. I've picked up a few little jobs that I'll post here when done, and am working on some comic stuff of my own.

I'm going to post a few sets of images today. The first is of some pieces I did for the store, for new gift certificates. I'll probably post the fully designed versions when they're done.

I have to thank my daughter Hannah for coming up with this name. Unlucky 13 is a sad sack who has been possessed by 13 evil spirits. They swirl around in him and vie for control over his body, for which few of them have little regard. Whichever one gets the upper hand can usually be seen residing in Unlucky's headspace.

This is the product of me trying to get used to brush pennin'. Less than 20 minutes, no pencil underneath, with some white pastel pencil on top.

There's been a lot of talk 'round the comic shop amongst employees about much cooler Robin could and should be. He's a 15 year-old who's been trained to kick ass by the toughest guy on the planet...would he really be so whitebread? Would he really be too nervous to kiss a girl, or be terrible at tennis? Nah, he'd be all "F that I just pwned Penguin--again." I don't think anyone over 40 should write his book unless he's named Grant Morrison (who nailed it in recent Batman issues). If I were an editor at DC, I'd pay Vasilis Lolos a great sum of money to redesign, write and draw Robin. Or Brandon Graham. Or Jim Rugg. Or Nate Bellegarde. Or Cory Walker.

This one was done yesterday (9/17), and it features several characters for a project ("Vestiges") that I've been gestating on for a while. The alien/eyeball fellow is not part of the book, just something at which the kids can stare agape. This here's just the raw b/w ink, now I go to color. I'm going to mess around with layers a bit and see if I can get a nice underpainting feel. Wish me luck!

Jam comic!

Last post today, for real. I just wanted to get some stuff up here. Here in RVA we're working on a Jam comic. The premise? One guy (me) threw a panel down on a piece of paper, which got handed to the next guy (Rob Ullman). He then comes up with the next panel, and it keeps getting pushed forward with the next guy not knowing what's coming before him. We're into page 4 now, so I figure it's safe to put up pages 1, 2 and 3. It's become so beautifully random I don't think there's any way a potential contributor would be spoiled on the rules by seeing the earliest stuff.

My name is Patrick Godfrey. I own Velocity Comics in Richmond, VA. I also publish comics through Oddgod Press. This blog will just be a spot to get some of my scribblings out there for the world to puzzle over. Mostly I'm thinking I'll post goofy super hero ideas, sketches, and process work for any forthcoming comic-y type work. Ideally it'll help keep me getting stuff done. For starters, here's a fella by the name of RUBBERNECKER. His powers? He can stretch his neck. Into ANYTHING! He probably sounds pretty weird when he talks.
